Bunsen Burner

Bunsen Burner, used for heating, sterilization and combustion, was developed by German chemist Robert Bunsen in 1855. This widely used piece of laboratory equipment is specifically used to produce a single open gas flame.

What is a Bunsen Burner?

Bunsen burner consists of a metal pipe placed on a pedestal and a gas inlet, which can also have a regulating valve on the lower part of the pipe.

It's main function is to perform the combustion process by mixing a flammable gas and air at the desired rate before burning. This can be Natural Gas (which is mostly methane) or a liquefied petroleum gas such as propane, butane, or a mixture of both.

Today, with the developing technology, bunzen burner is now used in laboratories with different designs.
